Two SG&S Attorneys Named To Best Lawyers In America

Press Release
November 2000

(Minneapolis, Minnesota) – James R. Schwebel and William R. Sieben from the law firm of Schwebel, Goetz & Sieben, P.A. were recently selected by their peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America® 2001-2002 (Copyright 2000 by Woodward/White, Inc.,of Aiken, S.C.).

The 2001-2002 edition is the ninth edition of The Best Lawyers in America.  Since its inception in 1983, Best Lawyers has become universally regarded as the definitive guide to legal excellence in the United States. Because Best Lawyers is based on an exhaustive peer-review survey in which 15,000 leading attorneys throughout the country cast more than a half million votes on the legal abilities of other lawyers in their specialties, and because lawyers are not required or allowed to pay a fee to be listed, inclusion in Best Lawyers is considered a singular honor.

James R. Schwebel

In 1974, Jim Schwebel founded what is now Minnesota’s largest law practice specializing in personal injury litigation. Jim was one of the first attorneys in Minnesota to be certified as a Civil Trial Specialist by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. He was also chosen for membership on the American Board of Trial Advocates. Jim was appointed by the Minnesota Supreme Court to serve on the Board of Professional Responsibility and on the Board of Law Examiners.

Jim successfully represented victims of the MGM Hotel fire in Las Vegas and the Williams Pipeline explosion in Roseville. In addition, he was appointed by the Court as a member of the Plaintiff’s liability Committee to handle claims for many Minnesotans who lost family members in the Galaxy Airlines crash in Reno, Nevada. Jim brings over 30 years of expertise in the service of his clients and their families who have suffered serious injury or the loss of a loved one.

William R. Sieben

A native of Hastings, Minnesota, Sieben received his Political Science degree with honors from St. Cloud State University in 1973 and a law degree from William Mitchell College of Law in 1977. Before beginning his career in law, he served on Walter Mondale’s Senate Staff, and was a White House Assistant to the Vice President during the Carter Administration. He returned to Minnesota, and in 1980 joined Schwebel & Associates as a personal injury lawyer. In 1983, he became a principal shareholder and the firm was renamed Schwebel, Goetz & Sieben.

For nearly 20 years, ‘The Best Lawyers in America’ has served as the leading lawyer referral guide to more than 4,000 of the leading law firms in the U.S. and abroad, and more than 1,000 of the world’s largest corporations. Compiled by Woodward/White, Inc., a professional research company founded in 1981 by two Harvard Law School graduates, Best Lawyers is continually used to locate counsel in unfamiliar jurisdictions for major legal matters.

Schwebel, Goetz & Sieben, P. A. is the largest law firm in Minnesota specializing exclusively in personal injury litigation. With 18 lawyers and more than 80 support staff, it provides personal, specialized service from initial investigation through settlement, trial or appeal.
