August 2024
Minneapolis, MN – August, 2024 – Schwebel, Goetz & Sieben is pleased to announce that three of its attorneys have been named to Minnesota Lawyer’s POWER 30 List – Personal Injury 2024. The attorneys included are Matthew J. Barber, Peter W. Riley and James R. Schwebel.
The POWER 30 recognizes attorneys “whose mere presence on a case signifies the stakes, who have influenced the direction of the law, whose leadership in the community is pervasive and whose respect within the bar is undeniable.” – Minnesota Lawyer
The list published by Minnesota Lawyer is built on interviews with respected attorneys and other leaders throughout the state, reviews of significant case outcomes handled by these and other attorneys, and archives of Minnesota Lawyer. POWER 30 highlights people who through their achievements and influence are recognized as powerful personal injury attorneys in Minnesota.
Matt Barber has been commended for, among other things, the number and quality of amicus curiae appellate briefs he contributes on behalf of members of the Minnesota Association for Justice. He works on motions and appeals at Schwebel, Goetz & Sieben, and his practice includes all aspects of personal injury litigation including car and truck collisions, motorcycle crashes and general liability cases.
Since 1977, Peter Riley has dedicated himself exclusively to representing people who have suffered from serious injury or the death of a family member. Among his many accolades he has been designated a Minnesota Super Lawyer for 29 years, a ranking awarded to 5 percent maximum of all Minnesota litigators. Peter has been recognized in The Best Lawyers in America© for 20 years, an exhaustive peer-review evaluation based on professionalism, abilities and integrity. He is a member of The International Society of Barristers, an honor society of outstanding trial lawyers chosen by their peers on the basis of excellence and integrity in advocacy, which seeks to preserve trial by jury, the adversary system, and independence of the judiciary. Peter received a leadership award from the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) Minnesota chapter recognizing his organizational leadership on the state and national level. He is also a member of the Academy of Certified Trial Lawyers of Minnesota.
Jim Schwebel has been practicing personal injury law at Schwebel, Goetz & Sieben since he founded the firm in 1974, and has seen verdicts and settlements increase along with the costs of medical care. He recognizes that injured clients just want to be treated fairly. “You don’t want to be cheated and you want to be paid fairly under our system of justice. There’s enough data out there to predict what a fair result is,” Schwebel said.
Jim was one of the first attorneys in Minnesota to be certified as a Civil Trial Specialist by the National Board of Trial Advocacy, and has been named by Minnesota Law & Politics as one of the ‘100 Most Influential Attorneys in Minnesota History.’ He is a member of the invitation-only American College of Trial Lawyers dedicated to maintaining and improving the standards of trial practice, the administration of justice and the ethics of the profession. Jim is a member of The International Society of Barristers, has been designated a Minnesota Super Lawyer for 32 years, and recognized in The Best Lawyers in America© for 36 years.
