A 23-year-old man injured in a St. Paul motorcycle crash Thursday afternoon has died, police said this morning. His passenger, a 20-year-old woman, is in serious condition.

The man, whose name hasn’t been released, collided with a school bus about 2:10 p.m. on Third Street, near Birmingham Street. No children were on the bus, whose driver was unhurt.

Witnesses told police the motorcycle appeared to be speeding as it headed west on Third Street, said Pete Crum, a St. Paul police spokesman.

The bus was eastbound on Third Street, preparing to make a left turn onto Birmingham. The driver told police he saw the motorcycle approaching quickly and tried to speed up to get out of the way, but the motorcycle struck the rear side of the bus, Crum said.

Paramedics took the man and woman, both St. Paul residents, to Regions Hospital.
